Elegy to Journalism

Eventually, the odds
come into play...

Even the odd even number
gets its oddity called out
by the number crunchers,
who, in algorithmic haste,
assigned my 20 years,
in three paragraphs
of regret-laced,
elegantly worded neglect.

Eventually, the odds
barge into play...

Even the odd philosophy
finds even footing
in conflict, and in dance.
In sweat, and in
red swishes as will seeks legacy.
My legacy. Our legacy.
Blood, after all,
is thicker than journalism.

— Leslie

(Poem: If it is legacy I seek to secure, then maybe it is time I looked for it beyond bylines and in my blood and soul...)
