Where Pigeons Play Kho Kho

I watch the
pigeons play kho kho;
a dreary day, hot,
they face headwinds, life!

I cry, helpless,
where the hell have
I kept 'em keys
to the locker?
Yeah, there where
I've imprisoned my will to run!

Ah, the strides,
towards crashing waves,
always towards home
for a ripe mango,
to the art, words
and all things golden
— from the friendly sunset
to the angry yolk in
the half-cooked egg,
served with milk,
on humid Monday mornings
before I rush for fights.

Hardly do I play now,
I stare at open windows,
at the leaves who dance,
young and hearty,
while pigeons play;
yes, I've forgotten kho kho!

Blurry Love

Can’t wipe it clean,
my vision,
to fathom the girth of
the pillars,
the depth in
those bleary eyes
that watch over me;
I guard ’em too.
But they look distant,
I strain my neck, I can’t see...

The morning mist
smudges my roots
as I fight lethargy,
and a stiff ego,
to look back and capture
the trio shimmer in
the golden yellow
wash of Sodium.
Much before the gold
showered by the sun
reach a shopaholic town,
it’s Onam.

I leave in haste n waste,
as the blurred
image of my genes
remind me of karma,
of honesty,
of the simple beauty in love.

Ode to Longing

I long...
I long to

slip and fall,
walking the tear-washed
green carpet,
sprouted overnight,
through many a
long nights, in fact;
too long,
I long...

To fall...
Run home in the rain,

wiping my tears
and muddy pride,
to the hot brew
in a steel bowl,
it's always steamy,

ready for me
on a cloudy day;
the fall...

I long...
For I am
too sure-footed to fall
in these insignificant puddles;

have too little time to cry,
too much of anger
to fear the stare
from those eyes
that taught me to love;
to LOVE...

Mother Eternity

There, far out there,
in the verse where
their eyes meet destiny,
at the edge of the known world.

There, where they walk gingerly,
cutting barriers,
to meet God,
deep inside the expanding
unknown... Their ether, eternity;
and they find bliss!

I, while I walk gently,
crossing a shifting hedge,
to meet mom,
deep into life’s only constant,
her love... My ether, eternity;
and I find bliss!

The Empty Room

The deep, long breaths,
signs of a life, its chords
resonate with
those beats
I can never drown in wine.
I grew used to the music
rising from the anteroom,
my only room, yes,
no room or heart for more love...
That rear guard up front
is long gone.... home.
But, in my numb starts,
I still see him,
as I wake up for another
day in the cold realities of
the stale and empty man I see,
in the shaving mirror I never use.

Hide n Seek

Hiding between clean,
ironed linen;
I delay the inevitable,
blocking the pouring love from
pals, aunts and the known skies here,
from touching those
few faded yellow pages
of a kindergarten colouring
book I kept safe
between quantum mechanics notes,
biographies, Playboys and some
paperbacks I’m yet to open...

I fear that bond
and its strength to
seep through the tiny
pores of my now
thickened hide and into my heart,
holding it home, sweet home.
Away from the dust and storms
I seek now... Shalt receive now!
